ICPPP23 International Conference on Photoacoustic and Photothermal Phenomena
Bonito - MS - Brazil - 28Jun - 03Jul 2026
The International Photoacoustic and Photothermal Association (IPPA) awards up to four prestigious IPPA Prizes:
Senior IPPA Prize and James Smith IPPA Prize
These prizes are awarded to distinguished senior scientists aged 40 and above. Both are conferred by the IPPA, a non-profit organization incorporated in North America, in recognition of sustained excellence and impactful contributions to the field.
Junior IPPA Prize
This prize is presented to an exceptional early-career scientist under the age of 40. It honors outstanding research and the promise of future leadership in the field. Recipients are nominated and selected by the IPPA Selection Committee within the two-year period leading up to each International Conference on Photoacoustic and Photothermal Phenomena (ICPPP).
Gerald J. Diebold Prize in Theoretical Photoacoustics and Photothermics
Established in 2024, this prize celebrates the seminal theoretical contributions of Professor Gerald J. Diebold to the development of Photoacoustics, as well as his foundational role as co-founder and Director of the IPPA from 2002 to 2020. Awarded biennially at the ICPPP, this prize is jointly sponsored by the IPPA and Diffusion-Wave Diagnostic Technologies (Toronto, Canada).
The IPPA Prize serves the purpose of acknowledging and honoring scientists or engineers who have made noteworthy contributions to the field of Photoacoustic and Photothermal Science and Technology. These contributions may be either a single outstanding achievement or sustained efforts over several years. In the case of young researchers, the prize is awarded based on their exceptional promise for future leadership in the field, as demonstrated by their early contributions.
It’s important to note that the prize is granted without regard to the candidate’s country of origin, race, or gender. The IPPA Prize reflects a commitment to recognizing excellence and potential in the diverse and dynamic realm of Photoacoustic and Photothermal Science and Technology.
